Hey Coffeeholics! We are on the verge of saying goodbye to 2013. It has been an eventful year but I'm definitely looking forward to awesome things ahead on 2014. Yes its the black marks that you can see on my cheek. I've tried to cover it with makeup but still its visible. Its such an eyesore. I'm not sure if its because of lack of sleep, detox, or hormonal reason behind it. Nevertheless, its there and sometimes its really cramping my style yah know? So when I found out about Proactiv's Refining Mask, I got intrigued. I've tried all sorts of pimple/acne products but so far, Proactiv has been the only one with guaranteed success. So I was glad to be able to try it out for myself.

Step 1: First, cleanse face with Renewing Cleanser. 

As you can see, to make cleaning faster and better, clear your face from any stray hair by wearing a wide hair band. Or for some just tying your hair will do. It will make cleaning so much easier and faster. I washed my face with warm water as well.

Step 2: Apply Refining Mask to dampened skin. 

Ok here's the deal. According to Proactiv, you may use the Proactiv Refining Mask on your whole face or on acne affected areas only. Since the Proactiv Refining Mask is recommended to be incorporated with the Proactiv® 3- Step System, it is advisable that you apply it on your whole face EVERY DAY only during the first week. Then afterwards, you can use it 3 times a week for maintenance.

As you can see, the product that I applied was a bit thick. 

If you read the label, it advises you to just apply the Proactiv Refining Mask on the areas with acne. I've tried using it on the whole face. But mostly I've been using it on affected areas only as seen above. I've been using the Proactiv Refining Mask as a spot treatment and only for 2-3 times a week. Please take note that when you apply it on your face, you can really smell the sulfur (I sneezed a couple of times) and as it dries on your face you can feel this tingly sensation. 

AFTER 10 MINUTES:
The Proactiv Refining Mask drys up and leaves a chalky like coating on the areas applied.

Step 3: Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with water.

 After Step 1 and 2,  leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

Scents and Zen Zest Fragrances

A lot of people say that me and my dad look a lot like each other. What do you think? :) Besides inheriting his amazing good looks (*coughs* sorry.. di ko napigil na maisingit! hehe!), I've noticed one of the things I've picked up from my dad is his habit of spraying on cologne. 

I have this distinct memory of him when I was young. He was on his way out -- to work or a date with mom I don't remember which -- and he was putting on his fragrance. So while wearing his undershirt, he shook out his polo shirt (a lot similar to what he's wearing above!) and started spraying the fragrance on it. Not once. Not twice. BUT ALL OVER! As in! Back and front of the shirt. Then he wears it and sprays all over again. iLove The Body Shop Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist

The Body Shop's OLIVE OIL Dry Oil Mist
It's a spritz-on lightweight moisturisation with lustrous Community Trade organic olive oil.

Its very rare for me to like oil mist sprays. I mean, seriously, with our tropical weather.. do I really need to be more oily? Haha. That was my first thoughts when I heard about The Body Shop's Olive Oil Dry Mist. Normally when you hear oil mist sprays, especially here in the Philippines, its not really a first option for one to buy. But then I heard from several people, one being JEN (shopgirljen.blogspot.com), who swears by it and has used this product even several years ago. 


So I got curious. What's the big deal about Olive Oil anyway? Yeah I know, you are probably wondering why a type of cooking ingredient is used for body "beautification". Plus wouldn't you end up smelling weird? Yep, those questions did swirl in my mind. I checked it out on the net and apparently Olive Oil is indeed an awesome moisturizer because it contains linoleic acid, a compound not made by the body, but which prevents water from evaporating. But reading about that doesn't really exactly show the effectiveness of Olive Oil as a Dry Oil Body Mist.So I had to "experience" it to be a believer in it! Its a good thing that I was able to get my hands on it thanks to one of The Body Shop events (which you can read in this post) because honestly I wasn't that motivated enough to pay around Php 700 plus on a small bottle of oil. So when I finally got my own Body Shop's Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist - I instantly fell in LOVE with it and swear by it! So here are my thoughts on this product.

1. SMELL. Oh boy was I sooo wrong in my assumption that this olive oil would smell weird and funky. The Body Shop's Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist smells AWESOME. It has a light smell that does have a faint olive oil scent that we all know BUT reworked into a refreshing scent. The scent is NOT overpowering. But it hooks you  I swear! 100% of the people who has smelled this product on me swear that it smells sooo good and immediately ask what it is. Everyone gets surprised when they find out that it is Olive Oil. So yeah the scent is definitely a winner!

2. MOISTURIZER EFFECT. It is definitely what it says it is. It is LIGHTWEIGHT. The oil absorbs quickly! Plus it leaves your skin smooth and soft. For me, this worked soooo much better than all the lotions I have put on myself. One of my friends have noted that I do sometimes have rough dry skin. Especially my hands. But when I put it on, my hands are immediately soft and not dry and rough.

I was with my lola the other day and I showed it to her and spritzed some on her hands, arms, and elbows. She took one look at me and said that she wanted one. She said that the cool windy weather has made her skin rough and kinda scaly like (seriously!) so she was looking for a good product that would make her skin soft. The Body Shop Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist was indeed super effective! (comment pa ni Lola, mabangong mabango daw. Mabenta! hehe!)

It is NOT sticky. It doesn't make you feel oily (dry oil nga eh..). And the best time to put this on your body is immediately after you shower.

1. PRICE. Like I said earlier, I wasn't too thrilled to pay Php 795 (srp)  for a bottle of olive oil. But after experiencing the product, I tell you IT IS WORTH IT. It is my absolutely favorite body moisturizer. I use it more than my lotion. I have also been using mine for 3-4 months na and so far I still have more or less half of the 100 ml bottle left. If you still think its a bit expensive, you can check out The Body Shop counters during SALE season. I know they mark it down as low as 30% off. This bottle was sold during a sale period at P495. Not bad na diba?

2. PACKAGING. Well more specifically, it is a spritz. I guess for me, I want to make every single drop of the product count. So I really dislike spritzing it on my legs or arms coz some of the product doesn't land on me (sayang! hehe). To compromise, I spritz the product on my hand. Only then do I spread and rub it on myself. That's a Tipid Tip right there!

Hair Makeover - Novelina Professional Hair Color

Before summer ended, I got one of my wishes granted - which was to have a new look by changing my hair color. Miss Jas explained that even though we choose a particular color to dye our hair, the effect is not always the same for everyone. It depends on the texture of your hair (kung makapit ba ang color or not) and also the color your hair was before you had it dyed. Zeelke is a DIY hair colorant so I think that's a fair enough warning for those who would be trying it out for themselves. The color chart above doesn't do justice to the actual hair color effect it will have on you. With the help of Miss Jas, we decided to try out Brown. Remember that my hair color at that time was Burgundy. So check out later what effect Zeelke Brown had on my hair!

Each box also had picture instructions and written instructions that will help guide anyone who would like to apply hair color to themselves. Personally, I prefer a friend to help me out here. But Ms Jas said that she applies the hair color on herself and its easy peasy!

Mixing the hair color is easy!
First, squeeze the contents of the tube of cream colorant in the  60 ml  bottle of developer.
Next, put on the gloves provided.
Then shake shake shake the bottle until the color has been evenly mixed in the bottle.
Miss Jas tapped the bottom of the bottle while pointing it downwards so that the mixture will distribute properly. And there you have it! Color is now ready to be applied!

Since Miss Jas, a Senior Stylist, will be applying it to me herself, she didn't use the ear covers any more (awww.. and I wanted to try it out myself. LOL!). So if you are going to color your hair yourself, don't forget to wear an apron so that the color won't get on your clothes.

Make sure you also have a lot of big hair clips handy coz you need to partition your hair so that the color will be evenly distributed in your hair. Ms Jas started at the back and the lower part of my hair. She advised to NOT put any hair color yet on the roots coz if you start with that, the hair color won't be even.

Miss Jas, being a professional, did not use the brush anymore and just used her hands and fingers. She said that using just one's hands in applying the hair color will be more effective coz most of the color will go directly to the hair instead of the brush. But then again, its a technique that professionals use coz if you use this method, you also have to learn and gauge the amount of hair color to apply on each batch of strands so that the color will be evenly distributed.

Then don't forget to apply color very near the roots (not SCALP ha!). Then using cling wrap, my hair was neatly wrapped in plastic so the natural warmth of the head will help "encourage" the color to take effect. According to the instructions, it should be like this for 20-30 minutes before rinsing and using the Novelina Conditioning Shampoo. While waiting for the color to completely saturate my hair, I checked out some other stuff that Novelina has to offer. Check it out:

After rinsing, Ms. Jas put some of their Novelina Hair and Scalp Treatment to make my Hair "Zeelke" smooth! :) And after blow drying my hair, I finally was able to see the end result.

Yay I love my new hair! Its not too light nor too dark but vibrant and definitely noticeable. Ms Jas said that as time goes by, the color on one's hair will really stand out and become more pronounced. The effect of the BROWN dye on my hair is kinda like Chestnut Brown (no. 5) on the chart! So I was really pleased when Miss Wella Tan of Tritan Ventures let me take home another Zeelke box in Chestnut brown once my hair grows out the color again.

UPDATE: Like I mentioned before, the hair color becomes more vibrant and pronounced after some time. This was like 2 or more weeks after I had my hair dyed using Novelina's Zeelke. I SUPER LOVE LOVE IT! :)
