OOTD: White Dress Experiment

White Printed Dress - Thrifted
Black Coverup - Details
Shoes - SM Parisian
Bag - Bazaar
Accessories - Gifted from Australia

Hey Coffeeholics! This is the outfit that I wore for the Freeway x Celerio event.  If you are my blog reader (thank you so very much btw!) then you would know already of my dislike towards any outfits that isn't black and most especially if it was white. But when I saw this dress at the thrift rack, I fell in love with it. It was the kind of dress and print that I never wear but have always wanted to try it out. So I bought it at around Php 80 (haha.. ooops. I spilled the beans here.. but what's the sense of wearing cool thrifted outfits without bragging about the awesome deal you got in buying it? LOL.. couldn't resist!) without thinking about it too much. That was months ago. So there it stayed in my closet. The white printed dress became the "white elephant" dress. (A white elephant is a valuable possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost (particularly cost of upkeep) exceeds its usefulness.)

Every time I opened my closet to look for something to wear, I'd always see the white printed dress. It would look so pretty and girly on the hanger that always encouraged me to try it on. Then I'd try it on and check myself out. Ugh. My reactions were always the same! I'd always find fault in it. Maybe I'm prejudiced to white clothing? I always felt that it was off .. that it didn't feel like me.. and that it didn't flatter me at all. Then at the last minute, change back to my usual colors. Very frustrating and time consuming! hehe. So finally, I decided that I will wear the White Printed Dress as an experiment. So that I will quit arguing to myself about it. Besides, I wanted to at least wear one white dress in my lifetime other than my wedding gown. hahaha.. so I did.

What do you think? Sometimes its really hard to break away from my comfort zone in terms of style and comfort. But I always believe that a little change to try out something different should be done even once in a while. I'll be honest and say that I wasn't entirely happy wearing my dress. Yes, I was conscious.. sa lagay na yan na mega ngitit ako! haha. But I'm glad I wore it. Will I be wearing that dress again? I don't know. Maybe I will finally lend it to my sister who has also been dying to try out the dress as well.

So Coffeeholics, how about you? Do you have a similar "experiment" dress, shirt, or pants there in your closet? You know, you bought it coz you thought it looks cool then later on couldn't bring yourself to wear it? I challenge you to wear it! haha. I did and I think it wasn't that bad. So do share share  share!

Freeway X Levi Celerio Launch Event

Hey Coffeeholics! Several weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the launching of Freeway's National Artist Fall 2012 Collection Series. It was held at The Row at Greenbelt 5. It was truly a spectacular event as it was the first time that Freeway honors a National Artist in the realm of music.

In the past years, the series featured National Artists Nick Joaquin (Literature), Ang Kiukok (Visual Artist), Jose Garcia Villa (Literature), Ramon Valera (Fashion Design), F. Sionil Jose (Literature) and Vicente Manansala (Visual Arts). For Fall 2012 Collection of the National Artist Collector's Series, Freeway features the works of National Artist for Music, Levi Celerio.

While I was there at the event, I learned a lot about our National Artist Levi Celerio. His name and face was  a bit familiar to me just coz I remember reading the newspapers about his passing. I also remember watching a show where he was featured playing music using only a leaf! So watching and learning how his love and passion for music has deeply affected our culture and society really left me in awe. I didn't know that he left such a huge legacy to us all. His amazing talent as a lyricist is evident due to the 4,000 Filipino folk, Christmas, and love songs that he has written and later on became so much popular that most ended up as movie titles. Who cannot forget memorable love songs such as Saan Ka Man Naroroon?, Kahit Konting Pagtingin, and Sa Ugoy ng Duyan. I also had no idea that the folk songs that I heard since childhood and have taught to my students were penned by him - Ang Pipit, Itik-Itik, Waray-Waray, Ang Pasko ay Sumapit, and Ako ay May Singsing. His songs indeed made an impact to our culture because his songs cherish life, convey nationalistic sentiments, and even utter grand philosophies.

To further enlighten and entertain us with music and the beauty of the song and lyrics composed by Levi Celerio, Miss Pilita Corrales lent her voice to the songs that our National Artist wrote. We all sang, hummed, and swayed to the familiar music as she sang several songs that night.

Giselle Tongi was also there to grace the event as our host.

And of course, I was able to get a closer look at the Freeway x Celerio collection. Each piece of clothing had a Celerio influence on it. Whether it be lyrics of his famous songs or symbols that are associated to our dear National Artist, wearing a Freeway x Celerio collection will definitely be eye-catching and worth also talking about.

The guys have their own Celerio polos as well.

One of my favorites!

Love the details and vintage feel of this one!
Yes, the design of the sleeves are actually LYRICS!

Hey Coffeeholics! Yes this is what I wore last Philippine Fashion Week when I attended the fashion shows by BENCH. I was super happy coz of several things that day. One was that I was happy coz I got to attend the MICHAEL CINCO fashion show in collaboration with BENCH. Also I got to see Allison and Dominique. Yes, I'm an avid fan of AMERICA's NEXT TOP MODEL! :) What about you? Also I was really happy coz I was able to attend RAJO x BENCH fashion show as well! Na sulit ba ang outfit.. ahaha! Also, during this event, I was able to meet Michael Macalos from the blog The Contemporary Boy. He was fun to be with and yes, I'm really grateful for the outfit shots that he took for me. Thanks so much!

Anyway, yes I'm wearing the black mesh SM Parisian shoes again. Its really one of my fave fierce shoes coz its so comfy and not stressful to wear. Haha. Yes, I still sometimes prefer COMFORT over Fashion. But if I can get the best of both worlds.. that will be pure bliss. :)

So Coffeeholics, June is nearly at its end. How was your month so far? Believe it or not, I've been to the clinic several times this month. Basically because of my health and also because I had my Annual Checkup. Ha. I admit I'm no fan of needles, injections, and the long period of waiting for your turn at the clinic. So yeah, I'm happy to report that I was able to overcome my fear of going to have a checkup.Yes, I had this "fear" of finding out the results of the checkup which is why I'm avoiding it. Good news is .. my sugar and cholesterol level is normal. Hahaha. The rest.. >> well I don't want to go into detail. Let's just say that I'm on meds (wah.. mala gintong presyo na meds.. huhu) and maintenance so that I will become better and hopefully slimmer in the near future. YES NAMAN! Haha. Kelangan i-encourage ang sarili.

So what about you dears? Whats' happening so far in your lives? Chika chika tayo! Mwah!

P.S. And just in case if some of you are wondering about my seemingly profound post title DECIPHERING ME is a title of a song by Brooke Fraser. :)
